What strikes me most is how this mirrors the early days of e-commerce APIs. Back then, whoever controlled the product catalog and checkout flow controlled the ecosystem. Now we're seeing the same dynamics play out, but the "interface" is an AI agent rather than a website. Google betting on their existing merchant relationships while OpenAI builds from scratch is a classic platform vs. newcomer battle.
